Bills' Big Throws Help Lift Rosemount To AAA Championship

Hayden Bills saved his best for last. On his final throw of the discus competition, during his final state meet, the Rosemount senior unleashed a monster throw of 207 feet to not only win the Class AAA title, but shatter the Minnesota state record. 

Bills' throw is US#3. He also added a state title in the shot put (66-7.50) to guide Rosemount to the boys Class AAA state title on Saturday at the MSHSL State Track and Field Championships at St. Michael-Albertville High School, in St. Michael MN. 

On the track, Lakeville North’s Bryce Stachewiz won the 1,600 (4:10.59) and teammate Andrew Casey won the 800 in 1:54.83.

Armstrong senior Noah Breker broke a meet record in the 3,200 running an impressive time of 8:51.44. 

Richlu Tudee of Champlin Park ran a wind-aided 20.99 (+3.5) to win the 200 meters final. 

In girls Class AAA, Minnetonka scored 101 points to win the team title over rival Wayzata (second, 88 points). Minnetonka was paced by junior Claire Kohler who set a new 100 hurdles record, clocking 13.80 and added a win in the 300 hurdles (43.03).  

Teammate Lucy Hiller claimed the triple jump title (39-6.50) and was part of the winning 4x100 relay (47.76). 

On the track, Maple Grove’s Jordyn Borsch won the 100 (11.65), 200 (23.70) and 400 (54.44).

In the distance events, Wayzata swept the 800, 1,600 and 3,200. Teegan Anderson won the 1,600 meters in 4:51.61 and the 800 in 2:11.26. 

Class AA 

The Class AA boys team race went down to the wire as Waseca claimed the crown with 39 points, Worthington was runner-up (38 points) and Stewartville was third (36.5 points). Waseca collected its points in the relays and field, setting a class record in the 4x200 (1:27.39) and winning the 4x100 (42.16). 

Waseca’s Damarius Russell was second in the long jump while Becker’s Carter Reckelberg set a class record with a mark of 23-3. 

Rockford’s Brian Schloeder broke a meet record in the pole vault, clearing 15-6.

Tayven Petersen of Mean won the 110 hurdles 14.67 and 300 (38.22) both meet records. 

The Monticello girls repeated as Class AA champs with 64 points, edging out Rocori (62 points). Junior Emelia Skistad led the way with victories in the 100 (12.18) and 200 (24.51) and part of the 4x200 relay (1:41.32), all three times meet records. 

Carly Hartwig of Tri-City United won the 400 in a class record time of 57.16. 

Class A

The St. Croix Lutheran boys won the Class A title with 41 points. Griffin Paulsen led the team with a win in the 300 hurdles (38.97), was fifth in the 110 hurdles, while teammate max Sergeyev was second in the high jump. 

In the girls race, Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimbal won the Class A title with a dominant 70 points. Brielle Kuechle won the long jump with a mark of 18-3.25 and ran on the winning 4x400 relay (3:59.20).

Individually, distance star Jade Rypkema of Nevis became just the third Class A female athlete to win three straight 3,200 titles, as she won the event in 10:35.02. She added a gold in the 1,600 (4:54.27).

Class A: St. Croix Lutheran boys 41 points; Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimbal girls 70 points - RESULTS

Class AA: Waseca boys 39 points; Monticello girls 64 points - RESULTS

Class AAA: Rosemount boys 69 points; Minnetonka girls 101 points - RESULTS
